The Nicene Creed for Trinity Sunday

All: We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

People: We believe that God the Father is our Creator.

Reader 1: All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. (John 1:3, NRSV)

Reader 2: The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. (Gen. 1:2, RSV)

People: We believe that the work of the Father is the work of the Son is the work of the Holy Spirit.

All: We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.

People: We believe that God the Son is our Redeemer.

Reader 1: For through him we have access in one Spirit to the Father. (Eph. 2:18, RSV)

Reader 2: That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them. (2 Cor. 5:19, RSV)

People: We believe that the work of the Son is the work of the Holy Spirit is the work of the Father.

All: We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.

People: We believe that God the Holy Spirit is our life-renewer.

Reader 1: May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thess. 5:23, NRSV)

Reader 2: Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, in order to make her holy. (Eph. 5:25-26, NRSV)

People: We believe that the work of the Holy Spirit is the work of Father is the work of the Son.

All: In all things, we believe that the will and the work of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is life-giving, life-saving, and life-renewing. Thanks be to God!
