Bruce Benedict is the chaplain of worship arts at Hope College. He also teaches as an adjunct instructor in the Center for Ministry Studies and helps to support the work of Awakening, a high school worship arts camp. He also works to encourage the broader church through Cardiphonia Music and Bellwether Arts.

We initially started this alternative practice on Ash Wednesday because we were concerned that this was one of the few times most people in our church would be touched directly by a pastoral leader . . . and to make that moment connected to the practice of ashes seemed profoundly unbiblical
