When the congregation of St. John’s Church in Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ontario, celebrated two hundred years of Presbyterian presence in their area, they returned to their roots and used prayers of the 16th C. English Reformer, John Bradford, in their worship. This is one of the prayers of illumination.

O Christ, you are our most true pilot and guide—
the most knowledgeable, faithful and friendly.
Put out your hand.
“Open my eyes.”

Make your highways known to me.
You are “the way;”
lead us to the Father through yourself,
that all may be one with God,
as you and God together are one.

“Show me the way that I should walk in it,
for I lift up my soul to you.”
